Your Cape Trib Connections Combo offers fun filled adventures where you will see the richest agricultural plains in Australia and the oldest Heritage Listed rainfoirest in Australia. This combo is by far the best value, action packed itinerary in the Far North!
Day One: Cape Tribulation & Daintree
Your rainforest guide will collect you from your Cairns accommodation for a journey of adventure and fun!
Heading north on the scenic coastal road, the highway snakes along the shoreline past secluded beaches and rainforest clad mountains with views over the Coral Sea to the Great Barrier Reef. This is one of the most spectacular scenic drives in Australia.
Passing Port Douglas, the journey travels through lush cane fields that surround the sugar town of Mossman. The gorge west of Mossman is the first stop of the day. Enjoy specatcular ancient rainforest of Mossman Gorge and time permitting there may even be a chance for a swim in the coll mountain river.
Heading on next stop is at the Daintree Mangroves Wildlife Sanctuary where you can enjoy coffee and cake with some friendly animals - Kangaroos, Cassowairies, Gliders, Crocodiles and unique Australian wildlife.
After this, cross the Daintree River on the cable ferry and enter the Cape Tribulation section of the Daintree National Park. On a clear day from Alexandra Range Lookout you can get a birds-eye view of the mouth of the Daintree River and spectacular coastal ranges.
Your guide will then lead you on the Marrdja Boardwalk or Jindalba Boardwalk where you can see trees that have been caught in a time-capsule - they haven't changed in millions of years. As you pass through the ancient rainforest, the marrdja boardwalk leads to a complex mangrove swamp system.
It is then time for a simple lunch at the picnic tables at Cape Tribulation Beach - where 'the rainforest meets the reef'. On the return journey travel back to the Daintree River for a crocodile and wildlife cruise. The boat cruise travels through the domain of the large Estuarian Crocodiles. Egrets wade near mangroves in the murky water of the river where crocodiles wait patiently for a meal.
Travelling back to Cairns there is time for a quick stop at Rex Range Lookout before arriving back after an exciting day at about 6.30pm.
Itinerary:
- Daintree Wildlife Sanctuary
- Mosman Gorge - Swim, Walk
- Marrdja Boardwalk [Guided]
- Cape Tribulation Beach
- Port Douglas
- Alexandra Range Lookout
- Morning & Afternoon Tea
- Lunch
- Crocodile / Wildlife Cruise - Daintree River
Day Two: Tablelands & Waterfalls
Come with us for the fun filled day where you will see the best of the Tablelands and gain the best value out of this packed itinerary!
Your day commences as you journey south of Cairns to Babinda Boulders. Babinda Boulders is a popular swimming hole and picnic area for locals and tourists, and a place of spiritual significance for Aboriginal people. Your guide will explain the Aboriginal significance of this area before a short 1.3km return walk to the Devil's Pool which leads through the rainforest to two viewing platforms.
From here journey further south to Josephine Falls - a picturesque waterfall fed by rains falling on Queensland’s highest mountain, Bartle Frere, which looms above this popular picnic area. A track will lead you through lush tropical rainforest, to viewing decks overlooking the Josephine Creek and Falls. Below the falls are several swimming holes surrounded by boulders and a popular water slide down a smooth sloping rock face between pools. Remember to bring your swimmers for a very refreshing swim!
Starting at Innisfail, the Palmerston Highway stretches through Wet Tropics rainforests of Johnstone River Valley to Millaa Millaa. Although this is the longest route from Cairns to the Atherton Tablelands, many people believe it is the most scenic drive and the best part of it is where you will end up! With European cheese makers developing new and unusual cheeses, alongside the old favourites, your visit to Gallo Dairyland will be fascinating and very tasty. Then of course there is the chocolate, which really needs little introduction...
After indulging on cheese and chocolate and lunch at Malanda Pub (own expense) its time for more beautiful waterfalls. Millaa Millaa Falls is a magnificent waterfalls surrounded by lush rainforest. The falls cascade perfectly to a pristine waterhole below where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool water. It is one of the most photographed in all of Australia.
Following this will be a visit to Lake Eacham which is an extinct volcanic crater lake filled with cool, clean, crystal clear water, surrounded by 1200acres of lush tropical highland rainforest. Saw-shelled turtles are commonly seen in Lake Eacham, paddling over to visitors when they appear.
This tour departs Cairns by 7:45am and returns by 8:00pm.
Itinerary:
- Babinda Boulders
- Josephine Falls
- Atherton Tableland
- Gallo's Chocolate and Cheese Factory
- Spectacular Views
- Milla Milla Falls
- Lake Eacham
- Crawford's Lookout
